STRENGTH TRAINING

One of the major benefits of strength training is that it enhances endurance performance by improving economy of movement, delaying fatigue, improving anaerobic capacity, and enhancing maximal speed (Ronnestad, et al., 2013).

Strength is generally defined as the ability to produce a force against an external resistance. Increased strength has the potential to translate to increased forced exerted against the ground when running, against the pedals when biking, and against the water when swimming. Stronger athletes tend to have a greater “kick” towards the end of a race when compared to their weaker peers, thus increasing their potential for negative splits and faster finishes.

AND, consistent strength training has also been shown to improve bone density, mood, confidence, and reduce the risk for muscle loss through aging and menopause + reduce the risk for falls.

I LOVE helping athletes build confidence in their ability strength train and it would be my pleasure to help in you in this arena in one of two ways listed below. I’m looking forward to helping you reach your strength training goals!

I could not have completed Ironman AZ without Renee. I developed a knee issue about four months out from race day and was not willing to give up. Renee developed a treatment program of strength building and stretching that fixed the issue, improved my overall core strength and running form. Not only did my run improve but the core strength helped me on the swim and bike as well.
